Back in the 90s, television was graced with, arguably, the most iconic animated superhero show to date. Batman: The Animated Series had something for everyone who was a fan of, arguably, America’s most iconic superhero – the show ended up garnering four Emmy awards due to the amount of acclaim it received. This show established Kevin Conroy as the voice many associate with the Dark Knight – if only his voice could’ve been used in lieu of Christian Bale’s “bat voice” in Nolan’s trilogy… Bruce Timm’s art style is also, more or less, synonymous with many’s images of the Batman universe – a blending the 1930s with the modern age. Shirley Walker (composing a majority of the songs), Danny Elfman Stuart Balcomb, Carlos Rodriguez, Carl Swander Johnson and Michael McCuistion are all featured within these eight discs. This may be a gut punch to your wallet, but if you’re a huge fan of the show (or know of anyone who is), I wouldn’t waste your time. I’m sure $225 is nothing compared to what scalpers can gouge from you. Listen to some songs below via the YouTube video and see what you think them. Cheers!

The Details

Celebrating the continued legacy of Batman, it's hard to gloss over the importance of Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995). Following the success of Tim Burton's film adaptation of the character, Warner Bros. Animation brought the character into a gorgeous and timeless Art Deco version of Gotham City, and using villains from the entire run of Batman's history (including a few new ones, like Harley Quinn, who made her debut appearance on this show in 1992). Bruce Timm & Eric Radomski - along with writing of Paul Dini - crafted arguably one of the most iconic versions of the Dark Knight to date.

It also, very importantly, standardized the style of music and the importance of it in serialized, animated storytelling, especially in the DC Animated Universe, which followed with Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and many other landmark titles in the 90s.
