Inspired by the MOTHER (aka EarthBound Zero) video game soundtrack, composers Hirozaku “Hip” Tanaka (Super Mario Bros., Metroid) and Keiichi Suzuki (Tokyo Godfathers, Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman), with help from the likes of avant-garde composer David Bedford and film composer Michael Nyman, recorded several tracks from the MOTHER soundtrack with full orchestration and, in several cases, English vocals from various European musicians, including Louis Philippe, Jeb Million, The St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir and a young unknown named Catherine Warwick.

The officially licensed Kickstarter campaign to bring the soundtrack to the united states, and on vinyl nonetheless! As of writing this, the red vinyl has sold out, but the White vinyl just got added due to the demand. Plus, it is over it’s campaign goal, so act now and you can get in on it knowing that it will be made!

The Details

MOTHER is a series of role-playing games created by Shigesato Itoi. Known for its irreverent humor, memorable music and unconventional take on the genre, the series has garnered a rabid cult following worldwide.

MOTHER, released in 1989 for the Nintendo Famicom (known as the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US), was a huge success, and is still looked back upon as one of the landmark games for the system. Being a hugely popular release in Japan, MOTHER received a soundtrack release.

This, however, was no ordinary video game soundtrack. Composers Hirozaku “Hip” Tanaka (Super Mario Bros., Metroid) and Keiichi Suzuki (Tokyo Godfathers, Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman), with help from the likes of avant-garde composer David Bedford and film composer Michael Nyman, recorded several tracks from the MOTHER soundtrack with full orchestration and, in several cases, English vocals from various European musicians, including Louis Philippe, Jeb Million, The St. Paul's Cathedral Choir and a young unknown named Catherine Warwick.

The album has never had an officially licensed release outside of Japan.

That is, until now.
