RIYL: Live Scores, Sonic Youth, Crash Worship, Creedle
Label: Country Club Records
This is my favorite of all of the Morricone Youth releases. It gets downright funky at times. Seeing Mad Max(OG) synced with this album is definitely the recipe for an excellent Saturday night.
I’ve included what I wrote on the Night of the Living Dead article below for those of ya’ll new to Morricone Youth.
Morricone Youth is the kind of band that immediately peaked my interest when I heard about them.
Just the name alone, is it a nod to both Ennio Morricone and Sonic Youth? Because I totally can hear those influences.
Morricone Youth is a modern band that likes to perform live scores for old films. Mostly horror and silent film stuff, but I guess they’ve also performed alongside cartoons.
If you ever get the chance to see them live then definitely jump at the chance.
LIMITED GOLD & BLACK SWIRL PRESSING. Morricone Youth give the Mad Max soundtrack a killer make over. Not to take anything away from Brian May's original score, but the NYC collective's live re-scoring just suits our tastes so much better. Compared to the grandiose symphonic assault of the original, the Morricone Youth version seduces you with sleek synths, motorik rhythms, mellow jazz, rock freakouts, and spaghetti western twangs (proper homages to their namesake Ennio Morricone). In an alternate universe, this may well have been the official soundtrack, but either way, we're glad MY has gone the distance to create such a parallel sonic dimension.
