Any of you horror hooligans see Deadgirl back in 2008? Â SUBQUESTION…Is it kosher to buy a soundtrack without having watched the film first?! Â Fret not, my babies. Â If the music moves you, then play on, playa. Â Joseph Bauer, perhaps an unfamiliar name in your world of favorite film composers, has been constructing thoughtful soundtracks for over a decade now, and Deadgirl is widely considered his best work…and wouldn’t ya know it, it’s available now on a beautiful 12”.
The film falls into the teen horror genre, dealing with the pains of isolation, rejection and general trepidation that young, sexually frustrated men deal with on a day to day basis.  The soundtrack serves as the perfect foundation for a young man’s bipolar frustrations.  One minute, a sublime ambient piece soothes you into a safe cocoon, and then WHAM!..heart-pounding turbulence.  You’re never too comfortable during the listen, and therein lies Bauer’s point.  For the brief amount of time you’re immersed in this music, you are reliving your teenage nightmare.  Sweet f-ing dreams.
Hyperboles aside, this is a damn good listen, and if you’re trying to grow your horror soundtrack collection, this one belongs in your budding family. Â Limited to just 500, don’t expect it to stick around forever. Â For more samples of the soundtrack, click HERE. Â Want the TEST PRESSING?! Â Buy it HERE. Â Live in the UK? Â Go HERE.
