RIYL: How to Dress Well, Owen Pallett, Youth Lagoon
One of the most punk rock moments of the last 5 years for me was on October 30, 2014 when a lipstick-clad Mike Hadreas performed on Letterman wearing a dominatrix leash and an open-chested power suit.  It reminded me of Iggy and Bowie’s infamous 1977 performance on the Dinah Shore show, both bold and provocative statements in the face of mainstream media.
Perfume Genius’ fourth album No Shape is coming at us in May, the follow-up to 2014’s Too Bright. Â Hadreas’ meek, quivering vocal delivery melds perfectly with his vulnerable, heart-wrenching lyrical content on loss, depression and alienation. Â Still, he’s a voice for the voiceless and an inspiration to the many underdogs who can’t and won’t bend to a status quo. Â I’m excited to hear more, but in the meantime, check out first single Slip Away below and grab a copy of the limited clear vinyl variant after the ‘buy’ link.
