RIYL: Nick Lowe, Nick Gilder, Vulfpeck
Label: Soul Step Records
Matt Duncan just walks to the beat of his own drum. His music feels familiar, like you heard it blaring out of a jukebox in an old diner somewhere or maybe spinning on your dad’s turntable stacked on a pile of Bill Joel and Nick Lowe albums. Although he incorporates a myriad of different styles into his music, Duncan doesn’t quite fit into any specific genre. Originally released in 2013, Soft Times blended r&b, soul, power pop, indie rock and everything in between to concoct a collection of timeless tracks that stuck in our head after just one listen.
The album was such a huge hit for Soul Step Records, they’ve decided to repress it for the folks that missed out the first time around. This pressing is on a beautiful randomly-colored splatter slab, and as of now, there are only about 30 copies left out of its 100-press run. Check out the album below, but grab one soon or you’ll miss out again.
