LA-based music-maestro Jonathan Wilson drops his 3rd album “Rare Birds” via Bella Union on  March 2nd!
In-between recording and touring with Roger Waters, and recording/producing albums for Father John Misty and Karen Elson, Wilson has somehow managed to finish his upcoming album and apparently expand his musical expression.
Where his former albums had a sunny CA late 60’s/early 70’s vibe to them, the first available track “Over The Midnight” seems to draw inspiration from the 80’s, clearly influenced by bands like Talk Talk and Fleetwood Mac in that era. Nice touch with that pixelated cover too. Wilson has described Rare Birds as a “maximalist,” high density album influenced primarily by 80s British production, and I’ll have to point a finger towards The War On Drugs on this one. As a regular listener to his previous albums, I’ll certainly spend some time with this one.
Rare Birds also features contributions from Father John Misty, Lucius, Lana Del Rey, and New Age music legend Laraaji.
