RIYL: Bon Iver, The Tallest Man on Earth, Band of Horses, Mutual Benefit

Label: self-released

It’s quite rare when I throw an ‘instabuy’ tag on an artist I’ve not even remotely familiar with, but I’m making an exception today with deer•ray, a singer/songwriter and one-man band from Southern England with 5 brand new tracks glimmering with aching guitar textures, soaring falsettos and anthemic choruses.  Undoubtedly inspired by Bon Iver and the ‘winter album’, not a second is wasted in the EP’s achingly brief 20 minutes.  This is the soundtrack for the falling leaves, the lone drive through the early morning fog, the fireside heart-to-hearts and everything in between.

Self-released and limited to a mere 250 copies, forts feels like the beginning of something great.  I can’t wait to hear more.  Listen to the whole EP below and grab a copy of the wax after the ‘buy’ link.  Keep in mind that it’s shipping from the UK, so the price will reflect that.
