UPDATE – I’ve updated the buy link to Run For Cover’s preorder page for the $15 black & white marble variant, as Luxury Records has sold out of their pressing.
Insta-buy alert. ¬†Swedish dreamgazers Westkust have made one of the most immediate debut albums I’ve heard in years. ¬†If you weren’t planning on spending $30 today to get a Swedish import shipped overseas, don’t listen to Swirl. ¬†You’ll be reaching for your wallet within seconds.
Two of the members of the more aggressive Makthaverskan are part of Westkust’s lineup, adding that essential heavy wall of noise embedded in the layers, but the pop hooks breathe a unique life into the mix, setting this particular band apart from their countless shoegazing peers. ¬†I hear a little Pains of Being Pure at Heart vibe, and lead vocalist Gustav Anderson recalls a young Michael Stipe.
Like I said, $30 shipped to the states. ¬†I couldn’t resist, and I’m betting that a lot of others will follow suit. ¬†Don’t expect this run of 300 to last very long. ¬†Pitchfork’s already slapped a ‘Best New Track’ on the band, and expect a lot of other music sites to do the same. ¬†If that amount of change is a bit rich for your blood, Run For Cover Records will be releasing another vinyl pressing in the summer, but there’s no talk of it being limited yet. ¬†Get it or don’t, people. ¬†Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
Limited 300 copies, black vinyl, Swedish pressing.
Includes digital pre-order of Last forever. You get 2 tracks now (streaming via the free Bandcamp app and also available as a high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more), plus the complete album the moment it's released.
