RIYL: Whirr, Smashing Pumpkins, Ceremony, DIIV
Label: Rough Trade exclusive
Despite some pretty insane press (Vocalist Domenic Palermo’s jail time for stabbing someone at a show and bassist Nick Bassett’s involvement with Whirr’s whirlwind social media controversies), the Philadelphia dark shoegazers known as Nothing have withstood the storm and readied a strong sophomore release.  Similar to early Smashing Pumpkins and the new DIIV sound, the guitar tones hurl walls of melody and noise at your eardrums while Palermo’s effeminate vocals blend into the swirls like Billy Corgan’s ‘Siamese Dream’ era.  First single Vertigo Flowers has a lot of fans excited, so it’s good to see the music trumping the gossip for a change.  Well done, lads.
Besides the UK in-store only ‘orange krush’ variant limited to 150, this is the rarest colorway you can get online.  The US variants from Relapse Records sold out in a matter of hours, so if you’re keen to Nothing, I wouldn’t wait long to order this.  It’ll probably be gone by later afternoon.  Keep in mind that US buyers will see a nice a little chunk of tax handed back to them during the checkout process which will significantly help with the international shipping charge.
