Here’s the conundrum. ¬†What if your band loves Joy Division AND New Order equally? ¬†Not to worry, Flaamingos. ¬†Interpol made it out alright, ¬†The Horrors managed, White Lies and many more have found their place in the post-Ian Curtis catalogue. ¬†There will always be a need for low-octave vocalists crooning over crunchy bass riffs and sweeping synths.
Flaamingos are part of Felte Sounds, which is owned by¬†Jeff Owens, also a manager of Ghostly International. ¬†Felte and Ghostly Int’l share a love of dark, atmospheric albums in the ambient and electronic genres, but occasionally pick up bands with more rock roots. ¬†Flaamingos is one of the rockier groups Felte has signed, and that’s a good thing. ¬†They encompass all of those elements I love from 1980s post-punk, but also embrace the modern electronic aesthetic.
The track below sounds uncannily like a lost Joy Division b-side.  If you follow the buy-it link, you can hear an additional song from the album.
