RIYL: Bored Nothing / Elliott Smith / Alex G (Sandy)
Fergus Miller (1990-2016)
I¬†will always remember when I first found¬†out about Bored Nothing¬†via¬†an extensive youtube-session back in 2012. Somehow I stumbled upon the track “Bliss”, and the music simply spoke directly to me more than most sounds I’ve encountered. From that day I followed the wonderful sounds of Fergus¬†closer than¬†I tend to with most artists, and the day he passed away back in 2016 I was shattered.
Fergus was a highly productive artist, and recorded a lot of music under different monikers before he started to release music as Bored Nothing (Blood Sports, Splintered Oar, Ferg, Fuck Mountain, Mexico and Red Sludge that I know of, most of which can still be streamed via his Bandcamp), he was half of the duos Pansy and Revenge Surgery (both with Anna Davidson of Major Leagues), and was also a member of the band Milkshake among others.
For his last project¬†Wedding Ring Bells , he mainly recorded with his accoustic guitar (sometimes with keys/synths), which¬†purifies his flair for clever, mellow melodies¬†and makes¬†them¬†even more close up and personal. His older brother, Marcus Miller, recently launched this Kickstarter on Fergus’ birthday (February 3rd), and¬†with only¬†5 days left to go¬†it’s closing in on it’s goal. Marcus has really done a fantastic job with Fergus’ material¬†via¬†Echo Room,¬†which¬†in addition to¬†managing Fergus music also¬†functions as an¬†organisation to¬†promote and support underground artists in Sydney.
The funding goal is based on a run of 150 records only, and there are still a few tiers available which includes some of Fergus’ art prints & stickers as well as the Vinyl LP.
PLEASE HELP MAKE THIS HAPPEN, GOOD FOLKS! WE NEED MORE FERGUS IMMORTALIZED ON VINYL <3
Hi! We are Echo Room, an art project and music label founded by the friends and family of Fergus Miller (aka Bored Nothing, Wedding Ring Bells, and one half of Revenge Surgery, Pansy).
As some may know, Fergus tragically lost his battle with depression in 2016. He left behind a huge and prolific back-catalogue of music. Some of it has already been released on vinyl (Bored Nothing - Bored Nothing and Some Songs), but the majority was only released digitally through Bandcamp, or not at all. One of the aims of our label is to immortalise Ferg's work in a format that people can treasure. Wedding Ring Bells is our favourite project of Ferg's outside of Bored Nothing, so we've chosen that as our first physical release, but we're hoping to release his full back catalogue slowly, over time.
Our funding goal is based on a run of 150 records, pressed at Zenith in Melbourne, which will go into production once funding completes, in March. If demand exceeds this, we'll increase the run to compensate - so everyone who orders a record during the Kickstarter will get one in May. The limited edition pink swirl vinyl will be capped at 50 records (otherwise it wouldn't be limited!).
We also have Ferg's original artwork and CD-R covers from his Wedding Ring Bells period - we're turning these into stickers and high quality art prints. A very limited number of his CD-R covers is also available for those who are looking for a little something extra to remember Ferg by.
Any money we make over our funding goal with go towards funding future releases of Ferg's music through Echo Room. 50% of this will go towards SupportAct, a charity dedicated to supporting arists with mental illness.
