To say Arts & Crafts is my favorite label is an understatement. This Toronto based music label, co-owned by Jeffrey Remedios, former Virgin record exec, and Kevin Drew, co-founder of Broken Social Scene, KC Accidental, and a prominent solo artist in his own right, is just a power house. Originally started as a way to release Broken Social Scene’s sophomore album, You Forgot It In People, it has expanded and found great success ever since. The label has played (or is playing) host to, obviously, Broken Social Scene, along with the siren Feist, Stars, The Hidden Cameras, Apostle of Hustle, KC Accidental, piano virtuoso Chilly Gonzales, Bloc Party, Eight and a Half, The Stills, Snowblink, Trust, Los Campesinos!, The Most Serene Republic, Phoenix, The Dears and the list just goes on and on. To go off the CD as reference, Disc 1 will contain hits and singles from the labels various artists and Disc 2 will contain oddities and rarities from the label’s various acts, current and past. The quantity of the LP version printed is unknown to me, but the label did tell me this was a limited edition release. This is a great buy, especially if you want to be introduced to the label’s numerous great acts. If you can’t afford the $60 CAD price tag, the double CD version is ok too! For once the exchange rate for us Americans is in our favor.
