RIYL: The Hold Steady, Fucked Up, Deer Tick
Label: Merge Records
I keep hearing the words “Titus Andronicus are back” anytime this band of Jersey misfits make a new record.¬† I mean…Did they ever leave?¬† Since they sprang into the musical landscape like a starving coyote in 2005, they’ve been an everpresent force in the evolving punk rock ethos of the aughts and beyond.¬† As feral as¬†the bloody and bruised¬†early 80s hardcore scene, but as uplifting and life-affirming as the most legendary Bruce Springsteen sets, Titus Andronicus make music when they have something¬†that needs to be said.¬† And we’re still listening.
An Obelisk marks their 6th record, a quick follow-up to 2018’s A Productive Cough, and if the first single is any indication of what to expect, it’s gonna be a fast and bumpy ride.¬† Produced by Bob Mould, this has the potential to be one of the most important rock albums of the year.¬† Bend an ear to the Dylan-inspired music video for (I Blame) Society and grab a copy of the ‘Peak’ vinyl colorway after the ‘buy’ link.
