RIYL: Jack White, Brendan Benson, The Greenhornes
Label: Third Man Records
Back in 2008, Big Jack, Brenden, Lil’ Jack and Patrick sprung a surprise album on the world called Consolers of the Lonely. Without any press or pizzazz, it just sorta showed up in the stores. Since then, Mr. Jack White built a vinyl enterprise in Nashville, expanded to Detroit, released a bevy of flexi discs attached to helium balloons, threw a divorce party with Karen Elson, drummed for The Dead Weather, built the Rolling Record Store, acted as Record Store Day Ambassador, released three solo albums, attempted to out-Catholic Stephen Colbert and…maybe once or twice…he slept.
And now, after 11 years of silence in the studio, The Raconteurs went back to work and came out with a long-awaited follow-up full-length titled Help Us Stranger, 12 tracks of tried-and-true rock and roll packed with guitar solos, synth noodling and plenty of “WOO’s!” If you love the tender songwriting talents of Brendan Benson, the meek swagger of Lil’ Jack Lawrence’s bass boogie, the never-let-ya-down rhythm from Patrick Keeler and you’ve enjoyed the music from that other guy, this new rekkid is probably up your alley.
This limited indie-exclusive version comes on white vinyl and an alternative screenprinted album cover. Also, call your local stores and inquire about an accompanying 7″ test press. The album is out on June 21st.
Look out for a limited edition white vinyl version of Help Us Stranger with an alternate cover and hand-screen-printed LP jacket, printed paper LP bags for release day only, and a limited quantity of strictly promotional, never-available-for-sale 7â test pressings of âHey Gyp (Dig the Slowness).â Inquire at your local shop for more info.
