RIYL: Foxygen, Todd Rundgren, Big Star
The Brothers D’Addario emerged in 2016 like a dusty 8-track in your parents’ attic. The Long Island duo were christened The Lemon Twigs and they looked like artifacts from a 1972 copy of Creem Magazine. Brian, the bashful but confident frontman, and Michael, the scrappy little brother, were writing songs that our parents made out to in their Oldsmobile Cutlasses and Vista Cruisers. The lads were rejecting the contemporaries of their generation and opting in for Todd Rundgren, Big Star and Badfinger. The hybrid gave us a warped Beatle-esque collection of power pop tunes with a snaggle-toothed ironic ethos on 2016’s Do Hollywood. The rest is history.
2020 will see the Twigs’ third record titled Songs For the General Public. First single The One shoots a sweeter-than-cotton candy syringe right into your jugular with its infectious guitar solos and chord progressions from the school of Alex Chilton. This track has everything you love about 70s AM radio gold, from The Raspberries to Alex Kim to The Partridge Family. Go get yourself a taste.
Check out the first single (and hilarious music video) below, but make haste. The first 100 orders will receive an additional signed insert. And you want that, don’t you?
