The Hold Steady is a rock band that seems to defy definition, from the almost spoken word vocal stylings of Craig Finn coupled with the guitar and heavy keyboard backing, to the juxtaposition of hard drugs and religious references. But these contradictions are what make them one of the best bands to listen to in the last decade. My introduction to The Hold Steady, “Separation Sunday”, still is among my most listened albums, and they have continued to impress me since. After an almost four year hiatus, The Hold Steady is releasing “Tooth Dreams” in March and is currently preselling their album on gold, with a gold foil cover (which is a nice touch). Check out their single “I Hope This Whole Thing Didn’t Frighten You” below, and then head over and buy the album!
