Swervedriver is back with a new album!!! “I Wasn’t Born To Lose You” is releasing via Australia’s TYM Records, Poison City Records and Cobraside worldwide in March. The Transparent Red Vinyl is only available directly from TYM, and strictly limited to 100 copies only.
Swervedriver’s first release was 1990’s superb “Son Of Mustang Ford” EP through Creation Records, who gave them reputation as one of the pioneers of the rising Shoegaze scene, side by side with labelmates My Bloody Valentine, Ride and Slowdive. There was no mistake labeling them in that genre then, but they always had a heavier Indie/Alternative oriented sound, drawing comparisons to bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. As they evolved throughout the 90’s, they evolved their sound into a more dynamic, mature sound. They managed to release 4 Brilliant studio albums (Raise -91, Mezcal Head -93, Ejector Seat Reservation -95, 99th Dream -98) and a whole bunch of EPs and singles before breaking up back in late -98. All albums are by now highly collectible on Vinyl, so be sure to buy if you find them at a decent price!
In 2008 they reunited for a number of shows, and the “Deep Wound” single (2013) presented the first new recorded material by the band since 1998. Frontman and songwriter Adam Franklin (guitar/vocals) recorded and released a lot of great stuff during Swervedriver’s hiatus, first under the moniker Toshack Highway and later as Adam Franklin & The Bolts of Melody (plus an album and an EP as Magnetic Morning with Interpolâs Sam Fogarino), but now itâs back to the fullblown fuzz of Swervedriver!
