RIYL: Bob Dylan, Kevin Morby, Gashcat

Label: Sub Pop Records

Portland singer-songwriter Kyle Craft described his 2016 debut album Dolls of Highland “like walking down this long hall of bizarre characters and surreal experiences, moving through the spider web of love and loss.” His sophomore follow-up Full Circle Nightmare is a much more autobiographical affair, an observation on the ups and downs he’s encountered on the road as a traveling songsmith.

For the unfamiliar, Craft’s vocal range soars to seemingly impossible heights, wailing and roaring over his vagrant folk stylings.  On some songs, he teeters into lipstick-smeared glam territory like a leather-clad Meatloaf in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but on his softer moments, his poetic ramblings hit your heart like mid-60s Dylan to the modern spokesmen and women like Kevin Morby and Angel Olsen.

While the ‘Loser Editions’ from Sub Pop rarely sell out quick, this one ain’t to be missed.  Grab a copy of the record on maroon and black swirl vinyl now before you regret it later.
