Damn..

This one is a real scorcher, good folks.

If you’ve been paying attention to in LA’s psych/garage-scene, Bert Hoover should definitely have popped up on your radar by now!  As 1/3 of the force behind the brilliant label Mock Records (Spyrals, Jesus Sons, Mind Meld, Froth ++) and a key-member among others Cab 20, Jesus Sons and Mind Meld, he’s partly responsible for some of the coolest sounds to come out of the area for close to a decade already. Under his moniker Hooveriii he has steadily been dropping releases (digital/cassettes) with recordings where he’s up until now been the sole-performer, but has now summoned some of his coolest cats to add their talents to the mix. In addition to Bert himself, Hooveriii now consists of Gabe Flores (Babylon), Kaz Mirblouk (Numb.Er), Shaughnessy Starr (Jesus Sons/Triptides) and Jaiq Styne (Altar Egos, ex-Mothdrops), and the first available track is off the hook!

The A side “Guillotine” is available for streaming underneath, and it is hot fire! HOT FIRE, I tell ya!

The Details

Never before has a debut single so seemlessly mixed all the best subgenres of 60 years of rock into such a fantastic crystalline stalactite. If the sounds contained within these grooves could be distilled down to something edible, even the smallest dose would be lethal. Both tracks were recorded and mixed in 6 hours with Mark Rains at Station House in Los Angeles, CA.
The A-side is a chugging minimal number with a hooking riff. The song is about cutting your brain in half and letting your fears pour out. The flip is an improvised instrumental jam inspired by Krautrock staples like Can & Amon Düül II.
Hoover III is Bert Hoover from Mind Meld and Jesus Sons on vocals and guitar, Gabe Flores from Babylon on Guitar, Kaz Mirblouk of Numb.Er on bass, Shaughnessy of Jesus Sons and Triptides on Drums, and Jaiq Styne of various LA bands on synth.
