RIYL: Tame Impala, POND, Prince in the 80s

Label: Spinning Top Music

When he’s not helping Kevin Parker and the rest of boys in Tame Impala take over the world, Jay Watson fronts the glitzy psych dance outfit GUM.  Think Purple Rain-era Prince tussling with Speakerboxxx/Love Below-era Outkast in a kiddie pool filled with melted butter while Currents-era Tame Impala cheers them on from the sidelines.  Glamorous Damage, GUM’s second full-length, oozes with 80s machinations and pulsates with nu-psychedelic sheen.  Basically, it’s kinda like the best thing you’ve heard in a damn long time.

Spinning Top Music, the label that brought you vinyl pressings from GUM’s debut as well as the pre-Tame Impala group Mink Mussel Creek and many many more offsprings from those two groups, are finally issuing Glamorous Damage on wax.  There’s no telling how fast these will go, but it will definitely be gone sooner than later.  And FEAR NOT, young Yankee, about international prices.  Even after shipping from Australia, you’re still under $30 total.  That ain’t bad at all!

If you need more convincing, listen to the whole album below.  Prepare for unadulterated bliss.
