Just yesterday,¬†experimental noise musician Dan Friel released¬†Total Folklore¬†on the notorious Chicago indie label¬†Thrill¬†Jockey. If you’re curious, this vibrant cover art was done by an artist named Maya Hayuk. If you pre-ordered this album, there was a chance you could receive a music box that plays the song “Thumper” in an infinite loop. On¬†Thrill Jockey’s site, it says they will notify everybody on the page when the orange vinyls have run out, but I don’t think they have yet so be quick about it if you’re going to buy one! The best way to describe Dan Friel’s¬†Total Folklore is that it’s just frenetic and wild. The opening track “Ulysses” clocks in at almost 13 minutes with relentless noise and crumpling throughout the length of the track. Every song on here feels like you’re about to experience some event of epic proportions with each song’s ceaselessly raucous energy. There’s also two special bundle deals you can check out too for only $6 more. Both can contain either the CD version or the vinyl version of Total Folklore but both will contain Dan Friel’s past 12″ which came out last year,¬†Valedictorian / Exoskeleton which is apparently a limited edition record as well.¬†Check out “Thumper” below.
