RIYL: Charles Bradley, Lee Fields, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes

Label: Daptone Records

When you need an intangible chemistry in your band, an extra bit of magic to spur you towards heights you didn’t think possible, make it a family affair.  Bill Schalda and his three sons, Will, Paul and Carmine, are all solid individual musicians, fronting groups like The Extraordinaires, Swivs, and Paul and the Tall Trees.  Their major breakthrough, though, came when they were asked to be the backing singers for Charles Bradley’s classic album Victim of Love.  Dunham and Daptone Records didn’t think their days were done once Charles Bradley passed on, and they were right.

Daptone Records is proud to present The Sha La Das in their element as a full family unit on their brand new full-length Love in the Wind, 11 tracks of soul, gospel, doo-wop and everything in between.  They’ve got a limited supply of these hot rods on randomly-colored vinyl and, as you’ve come to expect, they typically don’t last long.  Check out a few of the tracks below and listen to samples of the rest of the album after the ‘buy’ link.
