RIYL: Junior Murvin, Desmond Dekker

Label: Daptone Records

NYC’s finest rocksteady rudeboys have finally readied their first full-length after a slew of successful singles last year, and if you haven’t caught wind of The Frightnrs yet, bend those ears and stay a while.  Fans of early dancehall reggae from the likes of Desmond Dekker, Junior Murvin and the Kingston ilk?  Look no further.  This is as good as reggae in 2016 gets…authentic, harmony-driven soul with zero cliches.

And if there’s any record label out there that could do some justice for this release, it’s Daptone Records.  Specializing in the most soulful jams out there in any genre, Daptone is your ticket to the sweet stuff.  They have a limited version of the record on purple splatter wax, and I doubt it’ll be around for long.  Remember how quick The Mystery Lights‘ release sold out?  Yeah, don’t test me.  Check out their newest single below and catch samples of every track after the ‘buy’ link.
