RIYL: Charlotte Dos Santos, Jamila Woods, THEESatisfaction

Label: Fat Possum Records

I love mid-December for a lot of reasons, and one of those is combing through ‘Best of’ lists for the year.  Somehow, the lovely Kadhja Bonet slipped under my radar, but she’s been popping up on a lot of online lists.  Her incredible full-length debut Childqueen has quickly become one of my favorites of 2018, an eclectic intermingling of genres and cultures blended perfectly into something all her own.  Sultry vintage guitar tones mix with orchestral grooves and wind instruments, a unique style of psychedelic soul that could sit on your record shelf next to Erykah Badu as easily as Khruangbin.

Fat Possum’s initial run of 1000 on peach vinyl has sold out, but Vinyl Me, Please has a mint green variant limited to only 500 that’s still available.  You can grab that after the ‘buy’ link.  There’s also an indie exclusive colorway on marbled pink (flume) vinyl that you can try picking up are your local US record store or buy through online distros like Bullmoose.  Rough Trade has also joined the party with a coke-bottle clear variant that you can pick up HERE. Before you pick your poison, check out the entire album below.
