In 1996, Minneapolis band Greazy Meal released their debut album "Visualize World Greaze," selling thousands of copies locally. Prior to their breakup in 2000, this legendary local 8-piece Funk and Soul collective became the go-to band to see if you were in Minneapolis. For four years, they drew 1000 people a night during their enviable run at Minneapolis' The Cabooze. Special guests would frequently show up to sit in with the band. When Chaka Khan stopped by one glorious night to duet on "Tell Me Something Good," while it felt like a special moment, you didn't wonder why she wanted to be there. For fans of the Minnesota Vikings, there was no better place to run into half the team after a game on a Sunday night for shows that became the stuff of local legend. From Lisa Loeb to Prince to your mother, it seemed like everybody looking to shake their asses on a Sunday night were showing up to be a part of what became known as the Sunday Night Tribe. A fervently loyal fanbase brimming with positivity and a refreshing love for live music made the way it used to be made.
The band consists of two member's of Prince's original NPG (Tommy Barbarella on keys, Brian Gallagher on Sax/Flute), drummer Dave Anania (now with the Blue Man Group), Guitarist/Producer John Fields (major label producer and nephew of "Funkytown" songwriter Steven Greenberg), Johnny Lang bassist Jim Anton, and Paul Westerberg bassist Ken Chastain on percussion, comprising a sort of "who's who" of Minneapolis talent. The band broke up in 2000, but continue to get together from their various commitments to do reunion shows every couple of years, still filling The Cabooze to capacity.
Note from Mushmouth Records: I've wanted to do a vinyl release for a long time and slyvinyl.com provided a lot of inspiration for me to make it a reality. I saw this band more than 100 times while living in Minneapolis, so I'm excited to be able to make this release the first on Mushmouth Records. I've posted sound and video clips on the pre-sale page, so if you would like to check it out, there's a heaping helping. I'm offering some cool drawing giveaways as well. I hope you dig it!
