RIYL: Curtis Mayfield, Durand Jones & The Indications, St. Paul & The Broken Bones

Label: Dead Oceans

Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Aaron Frazer cut his teeth as the co-lead singer and writer for Durand Jones & The Indications, but it was only a matter of time before his staggering bounty of gifts propelled him to the forefront of the stage. Dan Auerbach took an immediate interest after hearing the instaclassic Indications slow jam Is It Any Wonder? and began the conversation about producing a full-length of his own. The result is Frazer’s debut LP Introducing…, 12 tracks of timeless soul, gospel and rock and roll energy lifted to the heavens under his irresistible falsetto. Whether you’re a fan of Curtis Mayfield’s high register or fell for Leon Bridges’ sultry ballads, Aaron Frazer belongs on your record shelf. Insta for me. How ’bout you?

Dead Oceans has a gorgeous purple and blue nebula colorway limited to 400 copies that you can grab after the ‘buy’ link. Check out three tracks below and get hyped. Is it too early in the year to predict this being in my Top Ten? Damn, son!
