RIYL: Diarrhea Planet, Tenement, Aye Nako
Label: Shitty Present Records
DIY rockers Spit-take just released their sophomore full-length in May: a collection of 15 emo-tinged indie punk tracks that touch on loneliness and longing, and even a bit on joy and accomplishments, all in relation to the perpetual growing pains of being human. Since their 2014 debut, the New Haven trio have further refined their emotionally honest sound consisting of Joe Katz’s sweetly strained vocals and sustained riffs, alongside the punchy rhythm section of brother Dan Katz on drums and Maggie Kinsella-Shaw on bass. With a persistent feeling of that mid-20s, in between stage of maturing—too old to be a sprightly fresh grad, too young to feel like a full-fledged adult—it’s all too appropriate that this release combines the band’s Tadpole and Frog Rock releases.
