RIYL: WILD FLAG, Heavens to Betsy, Le Tigre

Label: Mom + Pop

New label, new producer, new sound…Sleater-Kinney aren’t clinging to past successes or holding onto their indie punk affluence.  With St. Vincent behind the buttons and Mom + Pop Records writing the checks, Sleater-Kinney feels born again…again. Newest single The Future Is Here waxes poetic on the disconnection of being too connected, a similar motif explored in St. Vincent’s self-titled 2014 album.  The song’s synth-led swagger is the perfect tone for the brooding Cure-inspired bass line that the band has adapted, a significant departure from their previous work.

Mom + Pop has a black & cream split vinyl colorway after the ‘buy’ link for you colored vinyl nerds.  I’m one of ’em, so get to gettin’ before they disintegrate.  Yeah, that’s a Cure reference.
