RIYL: Sneaks, Sleater-Kinney, Bush Tetras
Label: Wharf Cat Records
Brooklyn experimental pop¬†4-piece Public Practice are a meeting of the minds, a combination of ‘freshly-dead’ punk project WALL and local pop¬†group Beverly.¬† The results are punchy, funky post-punk grooves you can dance or break the law to, a sound both vintage in its inspirations and forward-thinking in its approach.¬† There’s some menacing late ’70s New York basslines in there, but there’s also the fun vocal treatment you’d hear in a Sleater-Kinney track.¬† Tons to like here, and I’m excited to hear the rest.¬† Fans of minimal post-punk acts like Sneaks and Bush Tetras should grab this one.
There’s a special edition variant for the record limited to only 100 copies.¬† These are hand-numbered and come with a bonus flexi.¬† Nice.
