RIYL: Ought, Preoccupations, Parquet Courts, Captain Beefheart

Label: Domino

This quiet release from Protomartyr, a little EP in collaboration with Kelley Deal, is sure to pack a punch. The single is more melodic and eerie then their previous work, however it still has it’s gritty nature of in your face lyricism. Just check out some lines from Wheel of Fortune: ‘Roll me over, tender cousin/Open up my face to feel the gears/The inner workings/Forever turning’. The song finished with ‘A man with a gun and a deluded sense of purpose/A good guy with a gun who missed/A police state desperate to reach quota/The insurance company’s ad budget went over/I decide who lives and who dies.’ Damn.

This will sell out for sure. Get it while it’s hot.
