I recall first hearing about this Swedish band from music critic Anthony Fantano, otherwise (infamously) known as The Needle Drop, last year; if you were wondering, if he gave the record an OK score – I think it was a light to decent 7. I liked what I heard – a punk’s take on pop, even blending elements of dream pop and garage rock. Now, that was over a year ago – I had no idea they had a limited vinyl version of this released… Just to drop a fun fact,¬†Pitchfork only took notice of this back in May and gave it a review.
Alas… I’m making up for this extreme tardiness¬†now – my apologies. The vocalist Maja Milner has such ferocity and passion in her voice, but she’s able to convey her ferocity without that “driving a knife up and down your throat”¬†ear-splitting delivery you can possibly associate with punk or garage rock. If you like pop with some slight grit to it,¬†II is up your alley. At the time of this posting, there’s only 44 copies left and if Pitchfork continues their coverage of them I’d expect that to deplete quickly as their reader-base flocks to their Bandcamp en masse. Check out¬†II if you haven’t already below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
