This record has been brought to my attention via one of my favorite blogs,¬†We Listen For You – more specifically, by Hank Willenbrink. I’ve been staring at my screen for minutes now trying to come up with something that deviates and doesn’t rip off of Hank’s short and sweet praise of this post-punk outfit’s self-titled release and I just can’t find the words to do it. With atypical time signatures, blunt choruses, piercing drum fills, heart-pounding thick bass and vigorous guitar instrumentation, Fauxnz can catch the ears of metalheads, math rock fanatics, and punk fans alike. Before I continue to dig myself deeper in to a hole with my prosaic writing about this piece, I’ll let¬†We Listen For You’s Hank give you the scoop. Listen to the Bandcamp stream of¬†Fauxnz below and see what you think of it! Cheers!
“When Fauxnz’s “Drama Poising” growls out of your speakers, you’re going to be in heaven. ¬†The distinctive rumble evokes the sounds of post-punk with a metal edge. ¬†This is how rock & roll should sound: ¬†earthy, frantic. ¬†The slowest moments of Fauxnz are there to lull you to bed before blind-siding you with an ungodly rhythm section, before the prog-rock guitar lunges toward outerspace. ¬†The jagged stutter step of “Inferno” is the best example as the bass pinions the track to the floor, the chorus-like vocals and guitar hammer the metal into your head.” ~ Hank Willenbrink
