RIYL: Hüsker Dü, Sugar, Mission of Burma, The Replacements
Label: Merge Records
Ex-frontman of Hüsker Dü and all-around punk rock legend Bob Mould hasn’t skipped a beat since he and the boys took Minneapolis by storm in the late 70s. Look at his Discogs page. That’s consistency, folks. Throughout his career, with every album and every tour, Mould has remained a pure-bred songwriter, melding Beatle pop chords into his hardcore roots for something both melodic and ferocious. His new album is called Blue Hearts and it’s out in late September. Rock and roll.
Merge has some copies of the record on their limited “Peak” edition, a gorgeous blue/white/black tri-color variant that’s sure to sell out sooner than ya think. Listen to the aptly-titled first single American Crisis below and feel the f-ing passion still burning in this man’s veins.
