RIYL: The Dandy Warhols, Spiritualized, Love and Rockets, Leonard Cohen

Label: Little Cloud Records / The Acid Test Records

Psych pop songsmith Jsun Atoms (pronounced Jason Adams) has been a mainstay in Portland’s ever-vibrant music scene, popping up in bands like The Upsidedown and Daydream Machine while touring with The Dandy Warhols, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Black Rebel Motorcycle, Luna and many more. Let There Be Light is Atoms’ debut effort and boasts a superb line up of producers and collaborators, from The Black Angels’ Alex Maas to The Dandy Warhols’ guitar wizard Peter Holmström to legendary producer Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths).

Atoms’ low-octave vocal style blends in beautifully to his dreamy swirling song structures, coasting over krautrock rhythms and pulsing synth layers while flutes and string instruments add that delicate final touch. Sublime stuff, and an essential to anyone who digs Pulp, Spiritualized and the moodier side of the Dandys. Listen to the entire album below.

Little Cloud Records has both variants after the ‘buy’ link, but those are running out quick. Stay tuned for more Little Cloud write-ups over the next few days! Grab a few of those too and save on shipping!
