Oneida have been one of the few constants in Brooklyn’s ever changing under ground music scene.¬† The band’s sound is of psych rock, noise and kraut rock. That relies heavily on the use of repetition and improvisation. Oneida shows are known to stretch out for hours. Especially when the band held concerts their famed studio the “Ocropolis”. However in 2011 the building that housed the band’s studio was demolished to make way for new condos or a Urban Outfitters or some other sign of gentrification. Now six years later the band will release their first album of new material. The 11 tracks on the album were recorded in different studios around the country.¬† The studio may have change but the bands sound remains the same. The highlight of the album for me is the 18 minute closer “Shepherd‚Äôs Axe‚ÄĚ that builds from beautiful synths into a full orchestra of noise rock by the end.
There’s only 300¬†copies on¬†Translucent Magenta and White Vinyl with Multi-colored Splatter, hand-numbered at that!
If these run out, you can also get a Red Vinyl variant (supposedly somewhat limited), or go with the classic Black Wax
This incredible band has been a cornerstone of the Brooklyn underground for nearly two decades. Always evolving, the group has been a beacon of musical exploration and enthralling unpredictability. The 11 songs on Romance are built around deeply developed long-arc rhythm/phase concepts, noise, yearning, blind guitar rage, longing, the lurch of dying electronics, and a multi-modal embrace of human fallibility and artifice.
