The Brian Jonestown Massacre percussionist and funnyman Joel Gion has besides his duties with the mothership been busy wih his own solo-project for the last couple of years. He released an EP back in 2011, and has just released the new single “Overthrow” from the upcoming album “Apple Bonkers”, both released on Austin Psych Fest’s mighty The Reverberation Appreciation Society-label. Both tracks on this slab are awesome, laidback psych-rockers which doesn’t stray too far from Gion’s musical origins. The title-track leans a bit more towards The Dandy Warhols (who btw were joined by core-members of BJM on this years Austin Psych Fest for a rendition of BJM’s “Oh Lord” Now who saw that one coming 10 years ago when DIG! was released…?) , while B-side “Night of The Living Deadbeats” is a nice, fuzzy instrumental. And yes, both tracks feature steady tambourine-work.
This 7″ is limited to 1000 copies on Black Vinyl, and comes in a screen printed, hand-numbered sleeve.
