RIYL: Spacemen 3, La Monte Young, Suicide, NEU!

Label: Little Cloud Records (US) / Cardinal Fuzz (UK)

Named after a live Spacemen 3 album (which was named after a 1965 multimedia piece titled “Rites of the Dreamweapon” by minimalist drone mastermind La Monte Young), Portuguese dark psychedelicists Dreamweapon craft a pulsating groove both menacing and intoxicating. Gurgling vocal treatments entwine with tribal drum patterns and sinister bass lines, the perfect combination to soundtrack the wild-eyed maniac’s brain rhythms at 4 AM under the bridge near your house. From krautrock pacing to East Arabian melodies to the sweaty synth loops from Suicide, Dreamweapon are as cool as a Prophet 5 and as surreal as the foggy nightmares you still remember from your childhood.

Rites of Lunacy was recorded in 2016 between their 2015 self-titled debut and 2018’s SOL, so we’re unsure if it’s technically their sophomore effort or their third. Whether this is a lost album, an unfinished idea or a record that merely took longer to realize…it’s amazing. Listen to the entire album below and grab the lusty galaxy blue vinyl after the ‘buy’ link from Little Cloud Records. If you reside in the UK, grab it HERE from Cardinal Fuzz.
