Italian psychgazers Clustersun have been building their aural ladders to the heavens since they came together in 2013. A mere trio, Marco Chisari, Mario Lo Faro and Andrea Conti are able to make massive soundscapes nested in both noise elements and dreamy melodies. Their third album is titled Avalanche and comes out this year, the first project they’ve released in almost 4 years. Along with their own musical chops, the group brought on psych guru and heralded mixer and masterer James Aparicio for the new record. He’s worked with Spiritualized, Mogwai, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave and Liars just to name a few.
Leadoff track Desert Daze is submerged in Lo Faro’s immense guitar trickery, a cumulonimbus caterwaul of harmony and dissonance, while the following track All Your Pain shifts into a far more ominous groove, coasting on a goth-y bass lead and pulsating rhythm from Conti’s drum kit. Chisari’s vocals soar over the battle below, a captivating multi-octaved howl as charming as it is menacing. Listen to both songs below.
Avalanche is available on a red colorway with rainbow splatter that you can grab from Little Cloud Records after the ‘buy’ link.
