Au.Ra’s Jane’s Lament is not for the impatient. However, if you go in with an open mind, a willingness to wait and an appreciation for slowburners, I think you’ll like this album just fine. Au.Ra covers their bases with a melding of shoegaze, post-rock, jazz, dub and psychedelic elements that are simply pleasing to the ears. Look to the album cover above. Imagine the azure blue as your impressionable mind and the hulking red and black mass as Au.Ra or Jane’s Lament. That pitch-black border between them and you is slowly diminishing, with them assimilating you in to their creepy, yet alluring, cosmic world – that’s the ideal scenario, at least. I guess due to Australia basically being a day ahead of us here in North America, you can already hear the full album on Bandcamp since it’s supposed to come out March 3rd (yes, the band is Australian). Check out Jane’s Lament below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. I’d also like to extend a thank you to Jeff Owens at Felte for confirming the pressing number. Cheers!
