RIYL: Panda Bear, Avey Tare, Atlas Sound

Label: Domino Records

Avey Tare, Deakin and Geologist have returned once again.  Animal Collective, that band that damn near got a 10/10 on Pitchfork back in 2009 for Merriweather Post Pavilion, is widely considered one of the most valuable innovators to the indie music landscape of the past few decades.  Hypnotic loops, psychedelic synth textures and off-kilter vocal treatments…Animal Collective is that rare prototype group that composed the sound of the future.

Described as an audio-visual album, Tangerine Reef is their 11th studio album. Made in collaboration with art-science duo Coral Morphologic, Tangerine Reef will be accompanied by a film which will premiere on the band’s website.  In the meantime, we’ve got first single Hair Cutter, a hypnotic slow burner hoisted up by Avey Tare’s immediately recognizable vocal delivery.  Leave your expectations at the door.  Doesn’t sound like Tangerine Reef is going to sound like anything we’ll expect.  Isn’t that why they’re so great?

Green vinyl awaits you after the ‘buy’ link.  Check out the first single below.
