Ok, so I think it’s safe to declare that this title was a bit hard to come up with given the situation I’m about to inform you guys of. As I’ve written about numerous Gizeh Records releases, (at this point I’ll try to write about anything they give a limited release) I felt an obligation to give this deal a plug. It’s not really advertised on the label’s website. In fact, at the time of writing this, the test pressings category is second to the bottom on the lefthand table. Perhaps you noticed this hidden nook before I did (a kudos to you if you did), but if not that’s ok too – we’re in the same boat.
Gizeh explains that for each vinyl release (all of their vinyl released has been limited), the label receives five test pressings of which they keep for themselves or distribute to the artist/band. However, after receiving so many enquiries for the test pressings, the label has decided to sell one test pressing from each album. Once you buy that album’s test pressing, it’s gone forever. The good news is they have almost every vinyl available in a test pressing (excluding Charles Eric Charrier) and I’ve written up a good chunk of them.
Aidan Baker’s latest record, Already Drowning, which I sadly didn’t get to in time, still has its test pressing available along with others I was able to write about (A-Sun Amissa’s You Stood Up For Victory, We Stood Up For Less and Chantal Acda’s Let Your Hands Be My Guide among them). As you’ll see they’re quite pricey but if you really like any of the albums they’ve got available, it might be a good idea to cash in on a test pressing. As for previews, I have linked Aidan Baker’s “Already Drowning” music video below via YouTube but I’ll link my write-ups of the other albums available below. Cheers!
After a number of enquiries regarding our test pressings for vinyl releases we have decided to list just one copy of each available pressing here on the store.
We generally receive five test pressings per release and the only people who own these are Gizeh and the artists so this is a chance to get your hands on something rare and special. We also realise these aren't to everyone's taste and we are aware of the fact some people will think we are somehow 'cashing in' on this. However, seeing are some of you are asking then we feel that there is an interest in these and we'd like to give you the opportunity to own them if you are a collector or a fan of a particular artist.
We have listed just one copy of each release. All copies are black vinyl with white labels housed in a clear plastic bag.
