Overhead, The Albatross is a 6-piece founded in 2009 and hailing from Dublin, Ireland. Today, I happened across their new release Learning To Growl.
When it comes to the world of “post-rock”, and all the ambiguity that the definition of this sub-genre inherently¬†entails, it’s sometimes tough to discern what you might get when a new release comes your way. Sometimes guitar driven melody, sometimes cinematic orchestra and other times you come across pieces that delve so deeply into ambience that we wake up an hour later wondering what world we just woke up from.¬†Every element of this sub-genre¬†has one beautiful thing in common: it transports you.
With this release, we find a sprawling array of tracks that are beautiful and epic on all fronts. After years of personally digging throughout as much of this stuff as I can, it comes as a refreshing turn to discover Overheard, The Albatross and I couldn’t be happier to share it with you this Friday evening.
