UK post-rock outfit Her Name is Calla is celebrating 10 years as a band with a soundtrack to the last decade from playing small clubs to growing into larger and more ambitious performances. Â Fans of Balmorhea and the meek musicianship of Sigur Ros will undoubtedly love Calla’s sweet melancholia. Â If you ever wondered what it sounded like to hear a violin weep, give this a listen.
Track 1 His Heart Was Going Like Mad is a great example of their perfection of the slow build, starting off with a sparse, mournful piano loop and carefully intertwining it with a menacing guitar growl and pounding drums, then adding strings and synths reminiscent of M83’s very early work from Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts.
As of this post, only 33 of the clear vinyl variants remain. Â There’s also a boxset of the album limited to 1oo for the band’s die-hards that will run you $60 before shipping. Â Whichever choice you make, these are fleeting fast.
