RIYL: Duster, Built to Spill, Polvo
Label: Moone Records
From the ashes of slowcore icons Duster came Helvetia, an experimental indie rock project led and produced by Jason Albertini. While you can hear traces of Duster’s spaced-out lofi twinkle, Helvetia is an entirely different animal, a mix of hazy indie pop, psych and post rock that’s evolved as often as its revolving cast of band members. 2020 has been a big year for the group so far, as they’ve recently released another superb full-length This Devastating Map on Joyful Noise Recordings. Earlier in the year, however, the beautifully eclectic Fantastic Life was released and is thankfully getting a vinyl release from Moone Records. An eccentric array of guitar trickery, Fantastic Life boasts the same high standards they’ve always held, creating striking unconventional music that’s still remarkably listenable. There’s a reason this band is still around after 15 years.
Limited to only 275 copies on black vinyl, I doubt this one will last long. Listen to the entire record below and grab a copy of the wax from Moone Records after the ‘buy’ link.
