RIYL: Mogwai, This Will Destroy You, Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Label: Temporary Residence Ltd

At the turn of the millenium, Explosions in the Sky were barely a spark.  How Strange, Innocence were the embers that helped ignite a crossover movement that would eventually cast the band as the poster boys of post-rock, a title that has remarkably gone unargued for almost 20 years.  The impossibly rare tour-only vinyl pressing they made for the record in 2004 is the stuff of legend and fetches ungodly amounts of money on the secondary market.

You’ve more than likely already heard the news that they’re reissuing the record on Temporary Residence Ltd, but if not…surpriiiiise! Available on a gorgeous mixed blue vinyl colorway, you can now own a copy of this thing without forking over a couple of months’ rent. 4000 copies may seem like a lot, but the demand for this record is staggering. I wouldn’t hesitate to preorder if I was you.  They’ve already sold out copies on the band’s website and there’s a good chance they’ll sell out on Temporary Residence before the week is out.

You can also preorder the anniversary edition of The Rescue, their “secret album” they only mailed out in CD format to die-hard fans in 2005.  Get that one on orange vinyl HERE.
