After more than two decades of activity, Carl Hultgren (of the acclaimed duo Windy & Carl) is finally releasing his own solo album. I’d read before, in an interview done with Windy Weber, that she had been gifted Carl’s solo work but I don’t think it will be seeing the light of day – unless this is what she was speaking of? The only thing we can hear from the album so far is “Not Afraid” and if you like Windy & Carl, you are definitely going to like it. “Not Afraid” sounds like something that would’ve been found on the self-titled EP Windy & Carl released on Record Store Day two years ago; fun fact: I own both colors. Carl Hultgren’s guitar work on “Not Afraid” will soothe the soul with honeyed riffs and gentle reverb/echo. If you pre-order the vinyl (or CD, which is also limited – moreso than the vinyl), you will also get access to six additional bonus tracks which has the album’s playing time clock in at almost two hours. From a branch of Windy & Carl, I’d expect nothing less. Listen to “Not Afraid” below via the Bandcamp player and see what you think of it. Cheers!
