Portland-based audio and visual artist Randall Taylor has been creating immersive genre-blending soundscapes as Amulets for the better part of a decade now. Through field recordings, electronic experiments, cassette tape loops and samples, Amulets blurs the lines between ambient music and its many subgenres. Blooming, his newest record, was created entirely in his home studio last year, and as the first available track’s title would suggest, the music is heavy, melancholic sublimity. Heaviest Wait emits a bass crunch that sounds like the creeping monsters you heard in your bed as a child, dancing with twinkling synth keys and feedback until it morphs into a beautiful Cure-esque guitar epilogue. What a beauty. Can’t wait to hear the rest of it.
The Flenser has 350 copies of the record on coke bottle clear wax with an olive green blob inside, but a rarer multi-colored splatter version can be purchased through their exclusive membership club. Find out more about that HERE, check out the first track below and grab some wax after the ‘buy’ link.
As Amulets, Taylor pays homage to the paradox of memory and growth, creating a deeply immersive musical landscape in the process. Amulets brilliant new full length Blooming is a fitting debut for The Flenser — look for the album to be available on April 2nd, 2021.
Available on Olive Green inside Coke Bottle Green Vinyl (350 copies), and Milky Clear with Olive Green and Magenta Splatter Vinyl (Series Three Membership exclusive).
