RIYL: Blood Orange, Porches
Itās been about three months since we shared ourĀ excitement about Yumi Zoumaās debut LP,Ā andĀ still no update on whether or not the title has anything to do with Yoncalla, OR. However, I can say for certain that the bandās done a stunning job further nurturing their delicate, melodic soundāmaintaining whatĀ we love about them while undoubtedly maturingāto create aĀ cohesive bodyĀ of top-shelf ethereal pop. Thereās a reason the first pressing sold outĀ faster than expected, soĀ donāt miss out on the much smaller second run!
The first pressing of Yoncalla sold out much quicker than we expected, so we've put a new batch into production. This version comes in pale green and is expected to ship mid-late July.
Yoncalla is the debut album by Yumi Zouma.
Where Yumi Zoumaās breakout EPs were created in isolation, capturing the nuances of each memberās life half a world away, the new material was given a singular voice. āYumi Zouma has always been an exercise in refining ideas and collaborating,ā reflects guitarist Charlie Ryder, ābut this was the first time we werenāt limited or protected by distance. With Yoncalla, the process was different, and it can be scary to present raw ideas to your friends ā but itās also incredible to see songs evolve through the sparks of inspiration that bounce between people in the same room.ā That intimacy is apparent on Yoncalla ā an album about being close to people, rather than miles apart. Yumi Zoumaās effortless waves of harmony have been redefined and the creative process laid bare to expose an act more unguarded and interconnected than ever before.
To capture the concepts on Yoncalla, New Zealand visual artist Henrietta Harris was tapped to create the cover art, illustrating the band together on a front cover for the first time.
