RIYL: Blood Orange, Porches
It‚Äôs been about three months since we shared our¬†excitement about Yumi Zouma‚Äôs debut LP,¬†and¬†still no update on whether or not the title has anything to do with Yoncalla, OR. However, I can say for certain that the band‚Äôs done a stunning job further nurturing their delicate, melodic sound‚ÄĒmaintaining what¬†we love about them while undoubtedly maturing‚ÄĒto create a¬†cohesive body¬†of top-shelf ethereal pop. There‚Äôs a reason the first pressing sold out¬†faster than expected, so¬†don‚Äôt miss out on the much smaller second run!
The first pressing of Yoncalla sold out much quicker than we expected, so we've put a new batch into production. This version comes in pale green and is expected to ship mid-late July.
Yoncalla is the debut album by Yumi Zouma.
Where Yumi Zouma‚Äôs breakout EPs were created in isolation, capturing the nuances of each member‚Äôs life half a world away, the new material was given a singular voice. ‚ÄúYumi Zouma has always been an exercise in refining ideas and collaborating,‚ÄĚ reflects guitarist Charlie Ryder, ‚Äúbut this was the first time we weren‚Äôt limited or protected by distance. With Yoncalla, the process was different, and it can be scary to present raw ideas to your friends ‚Äź but it‚Äôs also incredible to see songs evolve through the sparks of inspiration that bounce between people in the same room.‚ÄĚ That intimacy is apparent on Yoncalla ‚Äź an album about being close to people, rather than miles apart. Yumi Zouma‚Äôs effortless waves of harmony have been redefined and the creative process laid bare to expose an act more unguarded and interconnected than ever before.
To capture the concepts on Yoncalla, New Zealand visual artist Henrietta Harris was tapped to create the cover art, illustrating the band together on a front cover for the first time.
