AWOO is just chock-full of cinematic choral pop bliss. Ontario native Joel Gibb, the only consistent member of this band, has called his material “gay church folk music” – a humorous, yet pinpoint accurate descriptor. AWOO, released 7 years ago, showcased the finest production the Hidden Cameras had yet which was actually done by Joel Gibb himself. Gibb, as far as I know, has done all the production on The Hidden Cameras albums. AWOO is something you need to listen to if you want to be cheered up, or you just want to have a fun time listening to “gay church folk music.” From the album opener “Death of a Tune,” to the title track “AWOO,” to “Lollipop” (where Gibb fashions a faux-English accent) I’m sure you’ll find yourself smiling somewhere in the midst of it. Listen to AWOO below via the Spotify stream and see what you think of it. Cheers!
